Smoke Detectors / Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Are the batteries fresh? Even hardwired systems need battery back-up in the event of a power outage. Set a reminder to change the batteries annually or as specified by the manufacturer in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.
Ten years is considered the life of a smoke alarm unit. Inspect your current units. They should have a date of manufacture. Replace any units that you find older than 10 years or that don’t have a date on them. Conduct checks of all your alarms to ensure that they are working properly.
